If it ain't broke...

While getting ready for a long run this morning I found a veritable progression of my running shoes. I figured it'd make for an interesting post.

I'm a bit particular about my running shoes after having read so many stories about people developing injuries just from using the wrong pair, and I've had a lot of luck with a pair of Nikes that I was fitted for at the local running store.

As you can tell, with the arrival of my third pair, I'm a bit reluctant to change to the new model! They are usually good for around 400 miles, so hopefully this new pair will take me through the bulk of the summer.

A look at 09...

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

I'm looking forward to 2009 for a lot of reasons and would like to share a little of what has been so far and what is to come...

Goals '09

  • Sub 5:30 Mile
  • 5K in under 19:30
  • 10 Miler under 1:10:00
  • Olympic Tri under 2:30:00
  • Average 20 mph+ on bike leg of Tri
  • Place in age Group
  • 750 Miles Run
  • 2,000 Miles Bike
Races (very tentative)
Here is a very early look at a few races I'm thinking about. The plan is for a good mix of running and tris, with hopefully an Olympic distance race or two this summer.
  • Philly Mile Time Trial (Sunday, April 5)
  • Penn Relay 5K (Sunday, April 19)
  • Narberth 5 Miler (Saturday, April 25)
  • Upper Main Line Y Tri (Sunday, April 26)
  • Broad Street Run 10 Miler (Sunday, May 3)
  • Hammonton/Sea Isle Sprint Tri (Saturday, May 23)
  • Philadelphia Tri (Sat-Sun, Jun 27-28)
Current Monthly Totals
It's early in the season and the majority of my focus has been on developing a good running base. With nicer weather and the arrival of the new bike, I've begun upping my cycling mileage and I'm looking forward to some nice long rides to get me back in shape. I'm also slowly getting back into the pool.
  • Running - 122 miles (55 miles in January, 67 miles in February)
  • Cycling - 82 miles (18 miles in January, 64 miles in February)
  • Swimming (3,150 yds in February)

Why the Change?

I was getting a little sick of the the tRYing Athlete moniker, so I decided to be completely vain and just use my name. Plus, it's always important to make sure to grab a hold of your identity, before someone else does!

As with the other blog, my goal isn't to broadcast to the world or rant about running a mile in some certain time. Rather, it's a way for me to chronicle my adventures/challenges and share them with those I care about. I hope you'll enjoy keeping up with my now certifiably insane activities and share your own thoughts. I may even post a revelation or two if they come to me.
