2008...Wasn't It Great?! (Hello Cheesy!)
Tuesday, January 6, 2009
Just thought I'd offer up a quick recap of 08 from goals to totals. All in all, 08 really was pretty great for me as it saw me cross off almost all of my goals and record some of my fastest finishes and best results ever. The Broad Street Run allowed me to cross off goal number one of breaking 1:15:00 (under 70 minutes in 09?). I followed that with another 6 weeks of training for the big goal race of the year at the Philly Tri. I improved all of my times over last year, despite the long distance, and was really pleased to finish right around 2 and a half hours. I definitely think I can improve on that time in future Olympic distance races. As for qualifying for Age Group Nationals, I know that I will make that happen some day.
After Philly I took some time to relax and just do some laid back events. However, my competitive fire didn't take much to get going again and I worked late in the year to cross off the 5k and mile goals. It was quite rewarding to succeed in my first attempt at both. Sounds like I'll need to make my goals a bit tougher next year.
Now for my training totals in 2008:
Swimming - 63,690 yards (36.1875 mi.)
- From my apartment down to New Castle, DE
Cycling - 1302.1 miles
- From my apartment to Sioux Falls, SD (in honor of Jer)
Running - 587.62 miles
- From my apartment to Quebec
With some more consistency and a better fitness level, I have no doubt I will largely eclipse those totals in 09. Thanks for reading and Happy/Healthy New Year to all! Look for 09 goals soon...
